Now known as Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, the property was redesigned by RCR Arquitectes, an award-winning firm from Spain. The designers wanted to create a harmony among the homes, the sweeping golf course and theocean. Each of the unique structures on the property have protected ocean views, and thanks to the open layout, each villa or apartment has equal access to the surroundings.

According to Rafael Aranda, principal and co-founder of RCR Arquitectes, the social highlight of the project focuses around theresort’sclubhouse, which is designed to bring residents together. “We have created the homes at Palmares not as objects implanted into the environment, but as spaces embedded into the topography, framing the landscape,” Aranda said. “The Signature Apartments are built with a unique relationship with the external natural environment, creating a feeling of privilege in this exceptional setting. It’s a feeling that flows throughout each home, connecting people to the place in a very special way.”

The property’s residences have achieved a “Very Good” rating under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) sustainability accreditation. Along with a design that takes advantage of natural light to reduce energy bills, each of the 37 apartments includewater-savingappliances. During construction, the architects focused on responsibly sourced materials.

Palmares Ocean Living & Golf is located within walking distance to the beach inPortugal’ssouthernmost region of Algarve. The property is in the Faro district, which formerly housed a number of fishing villages scattered along low sea cliffs and sandy beach coves in the 1960s, now one of the country’s most popular tourist areas.
